Shena CherianOwner/FounderDesiWeds

Shena Cherian started offering wedding consulting services in 2004 exclusively to South Asian (Indian and Pakistani) families. At the time, wedding planners for the Desi community did not exist in the U.S. so she knew that there was an absolute need for this service. After planning over 250 weddings, ranging in budgets from $30,000 to $650,000, she has mastered the art of South Asian wedding planning for couples who live in the States. She has seen and heard way too many horror stories of couples and parents who were winging this momentous celebration or had been burned by wedding professionals that were not prepared to serve an Indian wedding client. Hearing those stories and seeing how we as wedding professionals play such an important role in these couples' lives, and that of their families, is what led Shena to create DesiWeds. DesiWeds is an online platform for couples and their families to find every resource and vendor they need to plan their Indian wedding in the U.S. DesiWeds exists because after being at this for 15 years, things have not really changed much for the couple. They are still getting lost while navigating through a myriad of resources, articles and options, and frankly, the industry is not making it any easier for them. They are still overwhelmed and not sure what is appropriate, required or allowed. Couples have become apprehensive, uncertain and skeptical of who to trust. We have set out to create an easier way for couples to get the information they need as well as connect with vendors that understand their perspective and can collaboratively execute on their wedding vision. DesiWeds is about elevating and working together within the industry to provide what these couples are frantically seeking, while understanding their cultural needs and sometimes educating them along the way.
