Storytelling is all the rage these days but is there really a difference between event-storytelling and event design? This session will try to solve this chicken or egg question.

Gone are the days of pretty parties and generic themes. Today’s audiences and stakeholders want more; an event is an investment of both resources and time and to demonstrate value it must have a core message that needs to be communicated. In this session we will first establish the differences between event story, storytelling and event design. We will then use those differences to look beyond the obvious (and often generic) reasons for hosting an event to determine what the core message of an event really is. I will pose questions and challenge attendees to dive deeper and go beyond the surface to find the true story at the heart of the event. Then we will explore using that core purpose or story as a thread of continuity that flows through every aspect of the event design.
