Leading Caterers of America

Even as catering has begun to emerge in the new post-pandemic environment, staffing shortages continue to cripple the industry, with many hourly workers having found work in other industries during the height of the pandemic. The most recent report from the Bureau of Labor found that there are 3.5 million fewer people in the workforce today, relative to February 2020. Furthermore, the July 2021 Labor report found the hospitality industry is down 1.7 million jobs, and the overall turnover rate has reached close to 60%.

The pandemic has provided catering businesses the unique opportunity to re-evaluate their staffing strategy in order to best attract and retain skilled and reliable workers. Businesses will need to balance their operational needs with the new desires for flexibility, higher wages, and career growth of the hourly workforce.

In this session, attendees will learn practical ways to better manage new worker expectations, quickly and efficiently train new staff, and leverage technology to better match their business needs with skilled and reliable staff in order to combat ongoing staffing shortages.
